Wild Creativity with Catriona Pollard

$340.00 inc GST

Gift yourself the time to explore your creativity that’s not about perfection or deadlines, but all about play, reconnecting with nature and the most ancient of all crafts – basketry. You’ll leave with a greater sense of joy and a sculptural form you’ve made from the Australian bush.

Spending creative time in nature opens the door to imagination, gives us energy, makes us happier and offers new insights and perspectives to our lives.

Today, we live in a fast-paced world of technology designed to constantly grab our attention that keeps us constantly switched on. Coupled with relentless deadlines and the pressure of modern day living can all lead to mental fatigue, overwhelm, and burnout. Spend a day with celebrated nature-based artist, Catriona Pollard where you will have the opportunity to slow down, quieten your mind and reconnect with your imagination.

In this one-day workshop you will find renewed inspiration through a series of creative exercises and nature-based experiences including ephemeral art. You will learn ancient basketry techniques which have been used since the beginning of humanity. You will have the opportunity to transform ordinary natural found objects into something extraordinary.

Using a variety of foraged and harvested natural fibres to weave vessels and sculptural forms to tell your stories in interesting ways, and help you tap into powerful creativity. This is a not to be missed workshop that is all about reconnecting to imagination and joy, through nature and art.

We will be running 2 workshops in total:

  • 10.00am – 4.00pm Sat 29 Sept
  • 10.00am – 4.00pm Sun 7 Oct

Cost is $340 per person and we are holding these at our Wildfest Pop Up Retreat venue near Moss Vale. We will be in touch with maps and parking details closer to the event and we invite our workshop guests to explore our Wildfest Pop Up Retreat after their session. Numbers are limited so not delay – this is a very special Wildfest workshop and speaks to the heart of what we are all about: connecting with nature

About Catriona Pollard

Catriona Pollard’s unique sculptural work offers glimpses of shapeshifting natural forms, from unnoticed branches, leaves and seedpods into stunning works that celebrate the abundance of nature.

She uses foraged and discarded plant material with traditional basketry and assemblage techniques to reimagine nature. Her work is emotionally authentic, uniquely contemporary, and visually stunning. She uses nature as a way to connect with people that goes beyond physical beauty but touches them in a personal and profound way. Transforming discarded organic material into sculptures forces people to view the natural world around them in a different way.

The forms she weaves tell stories relating to friends, family and experiences. They are about truly seeing the extraordinary in everyday moments. Simply, it’s about being still, and letting the beauty surface.

Catriona Pollard has had three solo exhibitions and exhibited extensively in selected and group exhibitions. She has been shortlisted as many art awards including Emerging Artist of the Year Craft NSW, Ravenswood Women’s Art Prize, Northern Beaches Art Prize, North Sydney Art Prize, Warringah Art Prize, and Mosman Art Gallery. Her work is profiled across major art and design media and is featured nationally in galleries, high end design spaces and private collections. www.theartofweaving.com.au
